[ HOW TO READ THE CHART ]
Green Zone: %K cross above %D in zone < 20 → Buy signal: high predictive value
Red Zone: %K cross below %D in zone > 80 → Sell signal: high predictive value
Main Line: Stochastic/price divergence → Probable reversal in the next 3-5 candles
Confluence: Combine Stochastic with RSI for maximum probability
[ WHAT TO WATCH ON THE CHART ]
Observe how Stochastic behaves relative to key price points. Note moments when the indicator reaches extreme levels and how price reacts. Look for divergence patterns between the indicator and price movement.
[ FORMULA ]
%K = ((C - L14) / (H14 - L14)) × 100
%D = SMA(3) of %K
Where C=Close, L14=lowest 14 periods, H14=highest 14 periods

What signals does Stochastic generate?

%K cross above %D in zone < 20 → Buy signal: high predictive value
%K cross below %D in zone > 80 → Sell signal: high predictive value
Stochastic/price divergence → Probable reversal in the next 3-5 candles
Stochastic remains > 80 in trend → Strong buying momentum: don't sell
%K cross above 50 → Momentum shift from bearish to bullish
Stochastic < 20 + RSI < 30 + key support → High-confluence long entry

What is Stochastic and how does it work?

The Stochastic Oscillator, developed by George Lane in the 1950s, measures the position of the closing price relative to the High-Low range of the last N periods. Lane's idea: in an uptrend, prices tend to close near the highs of the range; in a downtrend, near the lows. When this tendency starts to fail, the trend is weakening. Stochastic has two lines: %K (fast, more reactive) and %D (3-period smoothing of %K, the signal line). A 'Slow Stochastic' version also exists where the original %K becomes %D and further smoothing is applied, reducing false signals.

How do you use Stochastic in trading?

Stochastic is used in four ways: 1) %K/%D CROSS IN EXTREME ZONES (the main signal): - Oversold zone (< 20): %K crosses %D upward → buy signal - Overbought zone (> 80): %K crosses %D downward → sell signal - IMPORTANT: only crosses in extreme zones are reliable. A cross at 50 has little meaning. 2) DIVERGENCES (very effective): - Bullish divergence: price makes a new low, Stochastic makes a higher low → bullish reversal - Bearish divergence: price makes a new high, Stochastic makes a lower high → bearish reversal - Stochastic divergences on H1 and H4 are among the most reliable reversal signals 3) OVERBOUGHT IN TREND (mistake to avoid): - In a strong uptrend, Stochastic can remain in the overbought zone (> 80) for many candles - Mechanically selling every time it exceeds 80 in a bullish trend = continuous losses - The rule: use Stochastic for TIMING entries in the trend direction, not against it 4) STOCHASTIC RSI (the advanced version): - Apply the stochastic formula to RSI instead of price - More sensitive and reactive: ideal for precise entry timing on H1 TF - More frequent signals but less reliable individually

What are the strengths of Stochastic?

Precise signals in overbought/oversold zones
Excellent for divergences
Visually clear: two easy-to-read lines

What are the limitations of Stochastic?

Many false signals in strong trends
Slower than RSI in reacting to changes
Confuses beginners on the trending vs ranging distinction
